What Did You Do After Easter

Posted by Terry Crist On April - 21 - 2009

The week following Easter is the time our staff usually sets aside to recharge their spiritual and emotional batteries, but not this year!!! After the glory of Easter with it’s nine services, 7000 attendees and 242 salvations, we hurdled into a week of serving our community!

On Friday we hosted “Project Homeless Connect” in conjunction with the City of Mesa, Mesa United Way, Valley of the Sun United Way, and Central Christian Church, served 1000 meals and provided services to 300 homeless individuals including approximately 20 homeless families on our Mesa campus.
I am so proud of our City of Grace family for providing food, showers, haircuts, legal aid, medical service, and opportunities for housing. Let’s do it again!

As if the week wasn’t busy enough, on Sunday afternoon City of Grace sponsored a celebrity basketball game at the US Airways center to support Dr. Perry Jansen’s AIDS clinic in Malawi. FOX 10 sportscaster Gayle Jansen (Perry’s sister and City of Grace member) did an amazing job putting this event together again this year. Her efforts resulted in over $50,000 being raised for the clinic! The excitement of cheering for the celebrity basketball teams was heightened by the joy of having my son Tyler playing in the game. Thanks to all the celebrities who donated their time to make this worthwhile cause such a success.

I would be remiss not to mention that we saw 90 hands raised to accept Christ in our weekend services. In the midst of serving to make our world a better place, let’s not forget what matters the most…souls reached for eternity!

Easter Afterglow

Posted by Terry Crist On April - 15 - 2009

Today is the Wednesday following Easter and I’m still basking in an Easter afterglow. It isn’t because of a sustained sugar rush from the countless malted ball Easter eggs I ate last weekend–although that would be justifiable. I’m pumped because of the glimpses of the resurrection we saw in our weekend worship experiences! Christ is risen and the evidence of that powerful reality is seen in the lives that are still being changed by His grace 2000 years after the first Easter morning.

Judith and I would like to express our deepest thanks to all those who served so faithfully and tirelessly last weekend. For those who care about the stats…here is the bottom line. We had almost 7000 people on both of our campuses with approximately 242 people accepting the risen Christ as Savior and Lord!
