Joel & Victoria Osteen

Posted by Terry Crist On January - 26 - 2009

I recently spent the morning with our friends, Joel and Victoria Osteen, sharing life and learning from their amazing ride over the past nine years since becoming pastors of Lakewood Church. Joel’s father, Pastor John, was a hero of mine and it’s great to see the way that God has honored his legacy through the calling, gifting, and dedication of the next generation.

Snow in Arizona

Posted by Terry Crist On April - 30 - 2008

Last night we had Snow in Phoenix…Tony Snow that is.

Gotcha! ;-)

Judith and I had a wonderful time eating dinner with former White House Press Secretary and FOX News Broadcaster, Tony Snow. Of all the unique qualities that make him the remarkable person that he is, I was most impressed with his sense of unbridled optimism. And that optimism has been tested in the worst of ways over the past few years as he has stared down the Whitehouse Press Corp during President Bush’s falling approval rating…a million questions surrounding an unpopular war in Iraq…and a devastating battle with colon cancer. But through it all, he hasn’t lost his sense of humor, his belief in our nation, nor his faith in God.

A wise man once said, challenges don’t make us who we are, they reveal who we are. And with each new challenge Tony is proving who he is.

The dinner was hosted by Cathi Herrod, president of The Center for Arizona Policy, who arranged for Tony to come to Phoenix to speak at her organization’s annual spring dinner. Cathi is leading our statewide charge to protect the definition of marriage in Arizona. (I’ll write more about my support of the upcoming marriage amendment in the months to come.)

It was an amazing thing to be reminded of how God has His people strategically positioned in every area of influence. And it’s exciting to see how He is positioning City of Grace to be a part of advancing the Kingdom of God in our generation!
